Jago.in - The next wave of Mutiny in India?

jagoIs India rising? Yes I think. The 1857 mutiny was India’s first rising against the oppression of the British. In the 21st Century I think India is rising again. Not with a big bang. Not with an armed rebellion, but trust me when I say this, India is awakeining.

And this time it’s not religious apprehensions of biting off cartridges laced with cow or pig fat. This one is all about feelings of nationality. Feelings of being a proud Indian. An overwhelming desire to make India a better place to live in is what is driving this second wave of “mutiny”. And a huge part of it is happening here, our very own solace - The Internet.

Browsing certain articles on Google, I came across this political party called “Jago”. The party has been started by people by a group of people with non political background. Businessmen, Lawyers and ex-IAS officers have come together to make “Jago”, the existence of which is purely for the purpose of making India better.

The mission of the party is to make India a very safe, strong and rich country.  The party has a great online presence. A slick website that clearly lists it’s mission / manifesto, links for citizens to post incidents of corruption, gives details of the RTI act and how it can be used and an appeal to join
either for active or passive membership. It’s no wonder that 200,000 people have already signed up.

    Jago’s manifesto:

    1. Reservation for none, jobs for everyone through free english education
    2. Improvement in Law and Order
    3. Elimination of Corruption
    4. Financial Aid of Rs 600 to every voter per month
    5. Creation of Wealth
    6. Checking Population Growth
    7. Reducing Pollution
    8. Strenthening Secularism
    9. Strengthening Democracy
    10. Promoting Individual Freedom
    11. Human Rights across the world

Most of their maniufesto items are applaudable. However there were a few of them which I was a little apprehensive about. I am not sure what the Rs 600 will achieve? Sounds like a bribe to voters to vote? Also I was a little apprehensive about the “creation of wealth bit”. Though I am not a communist, the party does seem to lean a wee bit towards capitalism.

Doubts aside, I appreciate their effort and and I think in a small but significant way the Jago Party doing it’s bit in bringing about the next wave of Mutiny in India. Check them out at http://jago.in

      Hey Mr. Angry Indian,

Yes, Jago seems promising. Let’s wait and watch. Or even join in.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t these the sort of people we should be afraid of!!! “Businessmen, Lawyers and ex-IAS officers.” Aren’t these the people already ruining, I mean running this country. On the other hand I would be far more frightened of a party being started by schoolteachers. The prigs always think they are right and have egos that stretch till Mars.

Some of these points on their manifesto are not so new.
Let’s see, point ONE: favours one language over all others, reminds me of someone….
point TWO: that’s what the BJP keeps asking the Congress to deliver on and vice versa
point THREE: elimination of corruption, well every single political party in India claims to have already accomplished in some small way, hence absolutely redundant!
point FOUR: voters being offered money, hah! an age old practice in India’s cow belt!
point FIVE: creation of wealth, our politicians are experts at this, next please!
Point SIX: checking population growth! In India, are they crazy. If Sanjay Gandhi could not do this after having peoples’ family jewels confiscated by the state, who can?
Point SEVEN: reducing pollution, they must share Mamta Banerjees concern for what the nano would do to our pristine living enviornment!
Point EIGHT: Isn’t that (strengthening secularism) what the upper caste in the congress have been doing all these years!
Point NINE, TEN and ELEVEN appear to have been taken from president Kalam’s bestselling, I mean not selling, treatise of impractical development tips for those who are going to live forever, and hence, are plagiarized!!!

One more reason for not voting for “jago,” the new TATA tea ad is so lame, if any one dare speak to me that way…

Who said you have to do something new? It’s how you do the stuff. Anyway they look promising. Here’s my reflection on your analysis..:-)

Point ONE: At least the language is English and not something regional.

      Point TWO: And you disagree?

Point Three: Which political party and when?

Point Four: Ur right, does seem shady.

Point Five: Creation of Wealth for the country, the economy my friend - slightly different from wealth for politicians and bureaucrats?

Point Six: I would not put too much focus on population. With the economy opening up, India’s population that was considered a problem became an asset.

Point seven: I don’t think the Nano can do more damage than the one caused by rickshaws, taxis and trucks.

Point eight, Nine, Ten and Eleven: All a bit hazy and for that matter all points are plagiarized.

What the party has presented is a primer. I would be more interested in the “how they do it” and “how successful they are” parts.

BTW the Tata Tea ad is http://www.jagore.com - a completely different website.

In India you’d be surprised how lame you’ve to get to make people listen. We have cable in villages n small towns. Ads are for them as well as for the elite-know-it-all-been-there-done-that-who-gives-a-shit-anyway Bombayite / Mumbaikar remember?.. :-)

“Point NINE, TEN and ELEVEN appear to have been taken from president Kalam’s bestselling, I mean not selling, treatise of impractical development tips for those who are going to live forever, and hence, are plagiarized!!!”

I think you are confusing plagiarism with inspiration, if an idea of a man is copied it is plagiarism and people who do that are called plagiarists,
if an ideology of a man is copied it is called inspiration and the people who do that are called followers.

What you have said is like calling everyone who supports non-violence a plagiarist who have the ideas from Mahatma Gandhi !!!!

    6. Aun on October 22nd, 2008

      @Arun

I guess nothing gets past you Arun, whatever you say. Though the idea of non-violence precedes Gandhi!

      @Abhik
Point ONE: I am willing to agree with you on this one, though I prefer not favouring any!
Point TWO: Depends how they go about improving Law and Order, if our politicians disciplined themselves…
Point THREE: From the northern ones to the southern, every rival political party purges the so called corrupt officials from the police and the bureaucracy when it’s their turn to rule and are cock sure that they have succeeded in having performed their moral obligation towards the people!
point FOUR: not at all, it’s a very effective method. Hell if anyone paid me 600 bucks, I’d vote for them, at least this crook is honest enough to pay me something as opposed to the thieves who feel they are doing me a favour by robing my country hollow!
point FIVE: Look at this way, we were taught in school, more income = more savings = more investment = more development. If our mantries get rich all of society benefits from the trickle down effect. Well maybe the Swiss banking society or that of the soon to be submerged Cayman Islands, but society none the less.
point SIX: That was the educated part of our population, mostly! We won’t have the means to feed let alone educate the remaining if we keep multiplying! I read this study by some American body which stated that if every American donated an x amount, it would provide an x number of Indian’s with condoms. Imagine that, an American shelling out to make sure an Indian sleeps happy, God bless America!
point SEVEN: I agree to some extent. However, I can do without a car, but we can’t do without trucks and for many people autos and taxis are a necessity! I prefer peddling!
point EIGHT, NINE, TEN and ELEVEN: I have to change this to inspired!!!

I read somewhere that you catch more flies with honey! I know jago and jago are different. I just found the ad to be extremely rude. The guy in it was too self righteous, what you called elite-know-it-all-been-there-done-that-who-gives-a-shit-anyway Bombayite/Mumbaikar.
